The future development trend of high-tech aramid fiber materials

As a high-tech fiber material, aramid is widely used in the civil field and is gradually known. The full name of aramid is "aromatic polyamide fiber", which is a new type of special-purpose synthetic fiber. There are two varieties of practical value in aramid: one is a meta-aramid staple fiber with a zigzag arrangement in the molecular chain, which is called aramid 1313 in China; the other is a para-aramid fiber with a linear molecular chain arrangement. China calls it aramid 1414.

The global meta-aramid (1313) has a capacity of 32,000 tons, and the supply and demand are basically balanced. In terms of domestic supply and demand, China's inter-site aramid demand is about 10,000 tons, while the domestic total capacity is 8,600 tons, and the production capacity is obviously insufficient. As the dominant player in the domestic meta-aramid market, Taihe New Materials has a market share of more than 60%, and its gross profit margin is basically stable at over 35%.

The global para-aramid capacity is about 65,000 tons. In 2011, the global para-aramid demand was around 53,000 tons. The world's major para-aramid producers are DuPont and Japanese Teijin, with 28,600 tons and 28,450 tons respectively, almost monopolizing the international market. The annual demand for para-aramid in China is more than 5,000 tons, all of which depend on imports, and the target price is 200,000 yuan/ton.

Along with the environmental protection movement prohibiting the use of asbestos in Europe and the United States, the aramid pulp fiber has been rapidly developed, gradually replacing asbestos as the main material for brake pads, clutch plates and gaskets. In addition, it has been widely used in other industrial fields, such as fiber protection, high temperature filter bags, automotive hoses, tires, audio bombs, power transmission belts, conveyor belts, transfer printing blankets, rubber soles, etc. In the field, aramid can be made into bulletproof vests, bulletproof helmets, bulletproof armor, etc., fire suits, fire masks, military and police training suits, cut-resistant gloves, etc.

In the civilian field, aramid can be made into flame retardant interiors and fabrics for airplanes, automobiles and high-speed rails. It can be made into fire blankets, escape ropes, flame retardant curtains, bedspreads, pajamas, tablecloths, aprons, microwave oven gloves, etc. Aramid can also be made into aramid paper for the insulation of motors, transformers and electronic appliances. It can be further processed into honeycomb structural materials for secondary parts of airplanes, yachts, high-speed rail and motor trains.
